Last updated 22 October 2026. Short version: no accounts, and nothing about you is kept on our server. The website shows Google ads, and they aren't based on your interests unless you turn that on.
Who we are
YEG Bus is run from Edmonton, Alberta. We follow Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's PIPEDA. The person responsible for privacy here answers at support@yegbus.com.
What stays on your phone
Your saved stops, groups, walk times and settings are kept in your browser (or the Android app) on your own device. We never see them. Clearing the site's data or removing the stop deletes them.
What reaches our server
To show times, your device asks our server for a stop's departures. When you search, the words you type go to our server, which looks them up for you. Our server does not log requests and does not save your location or searches.
Location: when you tap "Near me", your device sends your location to our server to find the closest stops. After that, your searches send a rounded area (about 1 km) so nearby results come first. If you set up groups like home and work, the app checks which one you're closest to on your phone; that location isn't sent anywhere. Location is only ever used after your browser or phone asks you and you say yes.
We look up addresses (Photon) and weather (Open-Meteo) from our server. Photon gets only the rounded area, and neither service sees your IP address.
Other services your device talks to
- Cloudflare carries the traffic to our server and may keep its own short-term logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
- When you open the map, map tiles load from OpenStreetMap and the map code loads from cdnjs (Cloudflare). They see your IP address, like any website you visit.
Visit counts
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and how fast pages load. A small script reports the page you opened, how long it took, your browser type and your country. It sets no cookies and doesn't follow you to other sites.
Ads and cookies
The website shows ads from Google AdSense, at the sides on a computer and at the bottom on a phone. The Android app, its widget and the wall board have no ads. We set no cookies ourselves.
Ads based on your interests are off until you choose otherwise. You can switch them on or off any time in Settings, under "Ads based on your interests". While they're off, Google shows ads based on the page, not on you. It may still use cookies to limit how often you see the same ad, to stop fraud and to count views.
If you switch them on, Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can also manage this in Google's My Ad Center or at youradchoices.ca. Google explains how it uses this data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Outside Canada
Google, Cloudflare and Photon may handle data outside Canada, mostly in the United States and Europe, where local law can let authorities see it. Email us to ask how they handle it.
What we never do
- We don't sell or rent anything about you.
- We don't build profiles, and there's no account to link your visits together.
- YEG Bus isn't made for children under 13.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you and ask us to fix it. Since our server keeps nothing about you, the answer will usually be "nothing", but email us and we'll check within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes too. We'll ask again before using anything about you in a new way.
